The "Problem" Quartet- 14 x 14 in. 2001

There are symbols everywhere in this set of pictures. Notice the number and position of objects, the positon of the plate in each picture and I'll bet you see other clues to the titles...there are more.
Top row: completed work. Below: mid-stage.

Citrus Juice
Citrus Juice
"Citrus Juice" 16 x 16 in. 2000

Well I wrestled with this painting a long time. The thing that kept getting in the way was how much I was responding to the "Jadite" Juicer. This seemed unimportant to the painting that it was Jadite. The light and my usual covert symbols were what I was trying to convey. In the end...the Jadite won out. I JUST LOVE that stuff!

Ketchup and Mustard Family
from the Relationship Series

First drawing, working out the composition then building layers of color until it tastes right!

A relationship study. Funny, don't you think how the plastic Ketchup and Mustard bottles can be so evocative? They really work as a metaphor for relationships in my opinion. This series is available and located in Swanson Cralle Gallery, Louisville Ky.

Orange Juice
Pictured below left is before I made the final adjustments. Can you see what changes were made? the fork changed to a knife, the coffee cup has been replaced with the OJ squeezer and the lemons became oranges. See how a painting can change?
See the change in composition and content, same painting!

Succotash...I was making this dish one day and became so tangled up in the variety of memories that, well...dinner had to wait.
Pictured below: studio set up and painting in mid-stage. Finished painting sold (not pictured in Gallery).
