Working almost always in series form, you will find most of the landscapes are from Ireland. " I find the boundaries in the landscape a perfect metaphor for the kind of boundaries one has to establish in their life" says Marty. |

The still lifes have to do with a sense of the moment, a memory and personal symbols. Metaphors play an important part in Marty's communicating with her paints. "As I translate familiar things into two dimensional form, the tactile qualities I pay attention to are color changes within the light, the shape shadows make in terms of composition, and of course the object itself for it's qualities to evoke and convey my point. I edit what I consider the unimportant and enhance what is left, resulting in how the ordinary can be a vivid and remarkable tool if you take the time to look". |
